IS attacks worldwide concerns UNSC

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK Jan 15 (KUNA) -- UN top body expressed serious concern with the continued threat posed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) Al-Qaeda and associated individuals groups undertakings and entities.In light of the recent spate of terrorist attacks around the world the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms latest of such acts in Jakarta which resulted in the deaths of at least two civilians for which the IS has claimed responsibility.In their statement the members of the Council led by Uruguay this month expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Indonesia and wished the injured a speedy recovery.They "paid tribute to the swift response and courage of the Indonesian security forces in responding to this attack" the statement added.Once again the Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators organizers financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice. It also stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable and urged all States in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard.The statement also reiterated that any acts of terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable regardless of the motivation wherever whenever and by whomsoever committed.The members of the Security Council reaffirmed the need for all States to combat by all means in accordance with international laws such threats to international peace and security.The 15-member body stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism terrorist organizations and individual terrorists in accordance with resolutions 2199 and 2253.(end) mao.rk
