The US designates IS Khorasan as a Foreign Terrorist Organization

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON Jan 14 (KUNA) -- The US designated here Thursday the so called Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) prohibiting any assistance or support to it.The US State Department said in a statement that in consultation with the Departments of Justice and the Treasury it had added the group based in Afghanistan/Pakistan region and was formed January of 2015 to its FTO prohibition against knowingly providing or attempting or conspiring to provide material support or resources to this organization."The group has carried out suicide bombings small arms attacks and kidnappings in eastern Afghanistan against civilians and Afghan National Security and Defense Forces and claimed responsibility for May 2015 attacks on civilians in Karachi Pakistan" the statement noted.It also reiterated that "the imposition of sanctions by the US against terrorists is an important element of our counterterrorism efforts" as it exposes and isolates individuals and organizations and results in denial of access to the US financial system.They also aim to assist or complement the law enforcement actions of other US agencies and other governments the statement concluded.
