World condemns Jakarta attacks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT Jan 14 (KUNA) -- A number of countries across the world condemned strongly the attack on the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday that killed and injured scores of people.Kuwait expressed its strong condemnation of the attack and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent earlier today a cable to Indonesian President Joko Widodo voicing deepest condolences and sympathy over the families of the victims.In the cable His Highness the Amir also wished a speedy recovery for those wounded in the attack and underscored Kuwait's condemnation of these "terrorist" acts that are unreflective of the image of Islam.The US also strongly condemned today's terrorist attack in Jakarta. "We stand firmly with the Indonesian people against terrorism and extremist ideologies that give rise to terrorist violence" State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.Kirby echoed US Secretary of State John Kerry's statement from London that "acts of terror are not going to intimidate nation-states. We stand together all of us united in our efforts to eliminate those who choose terror."We will continue working with our Indonesian partners and others around the world to combat these shared threats" Kirby concluded.Saudi Arabia also condemned the "terrorist" acts in Pakistan's Quetta Jakarta and Cameroon's Kolofata which claimed scores of lives and resulted in numerous injuries Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement."These terrorist acts which target security and stability in all parts of the world run counter to the principles of Islam and all human values and international laws" the ministry was quoted by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.In a statement issued by its Foreign Ministry Qatar expressed its condemnation of the Jakarta attack saying this act runs counter to human values and is an aggression against innocent civilians.Lebanon also condemned in the "strongest terms" the attack stressing that it stands firmly with the Indonesian government and people so as to counter terrorism. Lebanon called for enhancing cooperation in order to combat the so-called Islamic State and other terrorist groups.Jordan's government expressed its regret over the "cowardly terrorist act" renewing its stance for promoting cooperation in the war on terror.Algeria condemned strongly the attack voicing its solidarity with the Indonesian government and people and stressing the necessity of combating terrorism which poses a grave threat to all countries across the world.In Iran the government condemned the "terrorist" attack on the Indonesian capital affirming that it stands side by side with the Indonesian government and people and underlining the urgency of international cooperation and unity to counter terrorism.In a statement issued by its Foreign Ministry Spain condemned in the strongest terms the attack expressing its full solidarity with the Indonesian authorities and people in these hard times.The statement stressed Spain's confidence that these "heinous" acts will not prevent Indonesia from enjoying the spirit of peaceful and civilized co-existence.The British government also condemned strongly the attack and affirmed that it supports the Indonesian government in its war on terror.Also France strongly condemned the attack expressing its solidarity with the Indonesian government and people in countering terrorism and offering sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
