Kuwaitis grab 6 ALECSO APPS awards

DOHA Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Kuwait has won six prizes of the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organization award for mobile applications (ALECSO Apps Award) - four on the national level and two on the regional Arab one.
At the award-giving ceremony on Thursday evening the ALECSO announced 'manaheg al-kuwait' (Kuwait curricula) application developed by Ali Al-Ni'ma and Nasser Al-Ni'ma as winner of the first education prize; and 'Al-Mama' (chess-like) game by Dr. Anwar Al-Harbi winner of the regional award.
Dr. Nader Marafi's 'ketabi' (my book) application and Eng. Hussein Al-Bustan's 'raqeb nafsak' (keep eye on your weight) won the national cultural awards as well as the two regional-level awards.
In statements to KUNA following the ceremony Eng. Bassam Al-Shemmery ALECSO expert and Kuwait's representative at the arbitration panel said this is the first edition of the Organization's annual award which aims to honor the best smart phone applications in the educational cultural scientific and entertainment domains.
"The ALECSO APPS Award is part of a framework project aiming to create the necessary technological infrastructure for the domestication of smart phone and tablet industries in the Arab countries through a common perspective" he said.
"The motto of the award is "Arab applications by Arab cadres key to entrepreneurship and firm identity" Eng. Al-Shemmery said noting that the ALECSO will foster the talented youth and remove any obstacles that might face them.
He congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people and government on the winning of two out of 10 regional Arab awards. Kuwait is the only country that won two regional awards in addition to four national ones at the contest he added.
A total of 1200 candidates from 19 Arab countries vied for the first ALECSO Apps Award. (end) nnd.gb
