(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty expressed the Kingdom's appreciation for the assistance provided by the US administration which stands at $1.2 billion annually to help Jordan in facing the repercussions of regional turmoil mainly the Syrian refugees.
Talks with the US officials also tackled challenges in the Middle East and the importance of finding a political solution for the Syrian crisis to stop the bloodshed and end the suffering of its people.
The King briefed the Congress leaders on burdens borne by Jordan as a result of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees on its territory who consist around 20 per cent of the Kingdom's population.
Discussions also covered the importance of the resumption of Middle East peace negotiations especially as the absence of peace incites tension in the region and provides fertile grounds for terrorists to recruit young people and exploit them.
The US Congress leaders chairmen and members of committees praised His Majesty's efforts to bring about peace security and stability in the Middle East as well as his wisdom in dealing with challenges facing the region and its peoples. They also stressed their continued support for Jordan to face these challenges.
The congressmen also hailed Jordan's efforts in hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with humanitarian assistance that consumes more than a quarter of the Kingdom's annual budget.
King Abdullah II also met with representatives of the Arab and Muslim organizations in Washington where he stressed that terrorism is the most pressing challenge facing the whole world and fighting it remains a priority for the Arabs and Muslims because it's their war in the first place.
King also confirmed the role of Arab and Muslim organizations in the US in highlighting the true image of Islam its values teachings of tolerance building bridges of understanding and love between the East and the West.
On the sidelines of his official visit to Washington the CNN conducted a comprehensive interview with His Majesty moderated by the network's reporter Wolf Biltzerm during which the King reviewed the major challenges facing the Middle East as well as Jordan's stances towards them. End.
