Jordan- King returns home following working visit to Washington


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Jan.14 (Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II early Thursday returned home after a working visit to the United States during which he met with a number of the US administration leaders including heads and members of committees of the U.S. Congress as well as representatives of Arab and Islamic organizations in Washington.

His Majesty the King also met with the US President Barak Obama at Andrew Air Force Base where the two leaders agreed to meet next month.

During his visit King Abdullah discussed with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden the latest developments in the Middle East namely efforts to fight terrorism and extremism as well as Jordanian-U.S. cooperation in this regard.

The King also discussed with the US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter the Jordanian-American cooperation especially in military fields. During the meeting at the Pentagon talks between the two sides also tackled the international efforts to diminish the capabilities of radical organizations mainly the Daesh terrorist gang.

His Majesty King Abdullah II Tuesday evening held a series of meetings with heads and members of committees of the U.S. Congress during which he discussed the latest developments in the Middle East as well as international efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The King on Tuesday also met with the leader of the United States' Senate Majority Mitch McConnell leader of the Minority Harry Reid and discussed with them a range of Middle East issues. The meeting dealt with international efforts to fight terrorism namely the terrorist Daesh group.

The King also met with head and members of U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Bob Croker where His Majesty stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts and addressing challenges to bring about peace and stability in the region .

The Monarch also discussed with Chairman and members of the Senate Committee on Appropriations William Thad Cochran bilateral cooperation and means of enhancing them in various fields mainly the need to address terrorism in the region and the world.

In two separate meetings the King also met with chairman and members of the US Senate Armed Services Committee John McCain as well as members and Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Mac Thornberry. Talks touched on military cooperation between the two countries and means to improve bilateral ties in various domains.

On Wednesday the King held talks with Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) the House's Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) on Jordanian-U.S. ties and a number of Middle East issues namely the war on terror.

Also during the visit His Majesty met with lawmaker Ed Royce (R-California) chairman of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs and other members of the panel. Talks covered regional developments and the effect of the refugee crisis on Jordan where the King highlighted poverty and unemployment rates in Jordan.

Talks between the King and the House Subcommittee on State Foreign Operations and Related Programs Chairperson Kay Granger (R-Texas) and members of the committee addressed developments in Syria Iraq and Libya and efforts to combat terrorism. More......
