Egypt- Kamal Ahmed resigns from parliamentary office


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Parliament member and former candidate for the parliamentary speaker position Kamal Ahmed announced his resignation Tuesday from the newly elected parliament, citing health issues as the reason for his exit from the political sphere.

Ahmed lost the parliamentary speaker elections to Ali Abdel Aal Sunday during the inaugural congress of the parliament.

Ahmed had been sworn into parliamentary office on the same day, along with the rest of the newly elected members of parliament. He ran as independent candidate in Alexandria governorate.

This is the first incident of resignation by a member in the new parliament.
