Qatar- QC spent QR118m on aid in 26 countries last year

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity officials distribute humanitarian aid to some of the beneficiaries.

DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) spent more than QR118m to provide humanitarian aid to more than 2.7 million people in 26 countries in Africa and Asia last year.

Some 70 percent of QR83m was sent for relief for Syrian people followed by Yemen (QR12.3m).

Charity works worth QR5.8m were executed in Palestine while Pakistan received QR5.5m for the same.

Humanitarian assistance provided to Myanmar reached QR3.5m last year.

Iraq and Central Africa shared QR2m each.

Humanitarian assistance was also provided to several other countries including Sudan Indonesia Egypt Somalia Nepal Djibouti Ghana Comoros Lebanon Kenya Thailand India Senegal Nigeria Jordan Malawi Ethiopia and Mauritania.

Priority was given to Syrian people who were provided with food medicines clothes and shelters to reduce their suffering especially children women and elderly people.

Some 40 ambulance vehicles equipped with medical equipment and doctors were deployed for the treatment of wounded and sick people.

Mobile clinics were also mobilised for checkup and treatment.

QC is waiting to hand over a second housing project comprising fully furnished 700 units in Izaz Hawran and Idlib.

The units financed by the people from Qatar will accommodate about 700 families displaced inside Syria.

QC delivered 500 housing units at Al Zatari refugee camps seven months ago. After completion of the second housing project the units will total 1200.

QC plans to increase housing units to 3000 to protect the maximum number of families from shivering cold and provide them with a safe shelter.

A housing unit spread over an area of 22.5 square metres costs QR15000 without furnishing.

Each unit comprise two rooms a kitchen and a bathroom. Furnishing costs QR2000 including household items kitchen wares and bed sets.The Peninsula
