UAE- Forum on future cities to begin next week

With 75 per cent of the global population expected to be urban by 2050 cities are our future. How they are going to look like how they will develop and operate and how they will tackle environmental threats such as global warming pollution and floods caused by sea level rising will determine the success of regional national and global economies.

Such issues will be discussed at the Future Cities Forum organised for the first time this year at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

Hosted by Masdar Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company the ADSW will take place on January 16-23. Some 33000 global policy and business leaders academicians and environmental experts from 170 countries including 80 ministers will attend the conferences exhibitions and policy-making meetings.

"Sustainable development is integral to our continued advancement as a nation and reflects our core national values of peace prosperity stability tolerance and unity" said Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber UAE Minister of State and chairman of Masdar.

As the first major international gathering of 2016 especially following the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement aimed at mitigating climate change ADSW will include this year the Abu Dhabi Global Action Day a high-level event aimed at turning the ambitious goals of COP 21 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into practical and innovative policy investment technology and partnership solutions.
