On Tuesday afternoon and evening users of the popular app-based transportation service Uber will get a chance to zip around Dubai in a supercar driven by a professional racing car driver.

British driver Oli Webb will be behind the wheel of the car - a high-performance Lamborghini Aventador - ahead of this weekend's Dubai 24 Hour Race which he won last year.

The free rides - using the promo code 'SupercarDXB' - will be offered between 4pm and 8pm with pick-ups accepted in Dubai Marina the Palm Jumeirah JBR and Emirates Hills.

"It will be a promo activated use. People can put in the promo code and then they will be able to request Oli to come and pick them up and do a 15-minute ride around town to experience the car and what it can do" said Christopher Free Uber UAE's General Manager. "We'll be trying to avoid some of the traffic which I guess will inherently be there towards the end of that time."

Free noted that the event is part of a series of promotions held recently be Uber in Dubai which have included iPhone and Apple Watch giveaways as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival as well as surprise free rides in luxury cars.

"Basically you request a ride as normal and you might have the chance at getting a ride for free in one of these nice cars" he said. "It's going to be every Friday for the next three weeks through to the end of January."

"We've found that when we do things that really fit with Dubai they really work and they really resonate with people here" he added. "We've just been looking at different fun things we can do to engage with the residents and our users here."

Late last year Uber launched 20-minute helicopter tours across Dubai as well as to and from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Free added that the Uber UAE team is working on a number of other special offers for 2016.

"We really want to work on connecting with people here better and how we can become more relevant in Dubai" he said.

"We want to try use the resources we have to do things that no one else can do."

"We have a team of people here who will literally think outside the box and come up with crazy ideas" he added. "I expect the people of Dubai will see some really cool stuff in 2016."-
