Report: Daesh suicide bombers who killed 33 from Malaysia

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Two Malaysians have been identified as Daesh suicide bombers who killed more than 33 people in incidents in Iraq and Syria earlier this year.

The New Straits Times daily Monday quoted unnamed sources as revealing that Mohd Amirul Ahmad Rahim 26 blew himself up Dec. 29 during a clash at Daesh's stronghold of Raqqa in Syria killing 21 Kurdish fighters while Mohamad Syazwan Salim was one of several bombers who blew themselves up Jan. 3 near a police training centre in Tikrit killing 12 police officers and wounding 20.

"IS [Daesh] supporters had celebrated the death of the duo hailing them as the chosen ones and claiming them as martyrs" the daily reported saying that both men were trained at the Khatibah Nusantara cell in Syria for their mission.

It reported the duo as joining Daesh in 2014 after saying they were leaving Malaysia to participate in higher education studies at a Middle East country.

The duo’s death brings the number of Malaysians who have died while fighting for Daesh to 17 -- six of them suicide bombers.

Some 72 Malaysians including 14 women have been identified as fleeing Malaysia to join Daesh movements in Iraq and Syria using neighboring countries as transit points.

As of December last year seven had returned home to arrest.
