Arab Info. Ministers discuss media discourse development


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO Jan 11 (KUNA) -- Arab Information Ministers convened in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Monday to discuss ways to develop media discourse as proceedings of the fourth session of the council of Arab Information Ministers got underway.Heading Kuwait's delegation to the meeting was its Permanent Delegate to the Arab League Ambassador Ahmad Al-Baker.Head of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union Esam Al-Amir underscored the significance of the meeting "in light of the volatile situation in the region." "It is important that we use the weapon of media in a positive light" Al-Amir said.Moreover Assistant Secretary General of Media and Communication of the Arab League Ambassador Hayfa Abou Ghazala highlighted the importance of the meeting considering "the rampant misuse of media that could tarnish the image of Islam." "It is imperative that Arab media be used to remedy this image" Abou Ghazala said.The meeting expected to last for two days will tackle 14 different issues on its agenda chiefly "reshaping the Arab media strategy" by placing a roadmap for more efficient media discourse Abou Ghazala said.The Arab Information Ministers will also discuss ways to develop Arab media in a way that would ensure peace and security while stifling terrorism in the Arab world.Delegations from Kuwait Morocco Tunisia Algeria Djibouti UAE and Iraq are to participate in the meeting.
