GCC citizen sentenced to death for killing Qatari man

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A GCC citizen has been sentenced, in absentia, to death by firing squad for killing a Qatari man in a revenge saga dating back 32 years, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

A Doha Criminal Court convicted the defendant after investigations revealed that the man had admitted his crime and cited the details on his Twitter account.

He had mentioned the details of the weapons used and the place where he left the vehicle used in the crime. The court decided to delay the execution of the verdict until the nine children of the victim reaches legal age to decide whether they seek capital punishment for the victim or blood money.

The defendant planned his crime meticulously, according to the police investigations, as he travelled from his home country to Qatar and stayed in a hotel in Doha. He rented a vehicle and prepared the weapons and drew up a plan to kill the victim.

One day at the afternoon prayer, the defendant followed his victim into a mosque at Ain Khalid Area. After prayers he walked behind the victim slowly and shot him several times on the chest and head in a corridor of the mosque. Forensic evidence reports affirmed that the victim died due to the gun shots.

The defendant then left the country and posted the details of the crime on his Twitter account, which was widely shared by many users on social media. Accordingly, police tracked the vehicle used in the crime and recovered an AK47 rifle, a pistol and a number of bullets, the daily added.
