Lawati has over two decades of extensive and diverse work experience in the oil & gas business. He holds a distinction in bachelor of science (mechanical engineering) from the University of Arizona in the US.

His last assignment was with Tebodin & Partner where he worked for eight years. Before Tebodin Lawati worked for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) where he started his career and worked on various assignments for 19 years which includes a stint with Shell Exploration & Production UK in Aberdeen for three years.

During his tenure with PDO he worked on various assignments starting from construction through facilities/ process/concept engineer to head process/concept engineering and subsequently head of project engineering south & north. His last assignment before leaving PDO was as Fahud steam project manager.
