Jordan spends USD 170.7 mln in '15 from Gulf states' USD five bln grant


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN Jan 10 (KUNA) -- Jordan spent USD 170.7 million in 2015 on five primary development projects funded by a grant provided by Gulf Arab states Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif said on Sunday.The construction of a natural gas offloading pavement at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Port has been completed in the Red Sea city of Aqaba revealed the minister.Other grant-funded projects include a solar power plant also in Aqaba a wind farm in southern Jordan's Maan a petroleum products storage tank facility and a shale oil extraction endeavour.The grant of USD five billion was agreed by four of the six Gulf Cooperation Council states - Kuwait Qatar Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates - in 2011.With each of these nations making a pledge of USD 1.25 billion the grant aims to carry out crucial development projects over five years with the first package having been delivered in 2012.
