Qatar- Ministry will strictly enforce labour law says Minister

Doha: The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs HE Dr Abdullah bin Saleh Al Khulaifi said today that his Ministry is working to strictly enforce the labour laws in line with Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016.

The minister said that there are 350 inspectors working in the Ministry.

He was speaking at the opening of a training session for inspectors at the ministry. The session is held in cooperation with Arab Labor Organization. The session began today and will last until January 21.

An important role of the ministry the minister said is to find jobs for legal expat workers. He highlighted the law the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued in 2015 (law no.1) amending some provisions of the labour law related to protecting wages. The Minister said that the law was implemented successfully in November.

He also highlighted that the Emir issued law no.21 for 2015 which regulates the entry and exit of expats into the country. This law will come into effect next year to allow companies to amend their contracts accordingly.
