Kuwait- SNA calls for airdrops to starving Syrians

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL Jan 9 (KUNA) -- The opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) urged the United States on Saturday to conduct airdrops to the starving people in towns besieged by the Syrian regular troops and pro-regime militias.The international community notably the US and its allies must take a tough stance with the regime of Bashar Al-Assad and the Lebanese Hezbollah group that persist in committing crimes against the people of Syria according to a statement by the SNC.The statement that followed a meeting between the SNC political committee and the US Special Envoy for Syria Michael Ratney renewed strong condemnation of the siege laid by the Syrian regular troops and Hezbollah on the towns of Madaya Zabadani Al-Me'thamiya and Deir Ezzur.It noted that the blockade on Madaya has so far led to 35 deaths of starvation mainly among children and elderly people.The statement also called on the international community for force Al-Assad's regime into implementing the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254 particularly the 12th and 13th articles that provide for cessation of indiscriminate attacks on residential areas lifting the siege on towns delivery food aid to all needy people and release of political prisoners.The SNC representatives discussed with the US envoy the coming round of negotiations due to take place in Geneval on January 25 the statement added.
