Indonesia forecasts 37pct fall in cocoa export over 2016

(MENAFN) As the government enforces new export tariffs and taxes, Indonesia projects its cocoa exports to foreign destinations to deteriorate by 37 percent over 2016, hitting a total of 25,000 tons.

The exportation last year was assessed at nearly 40,000 tons, and it's worth mentioning that the nation aims to be the world's top cocoa producer by 2020 through extension of cocoa plantation area.

Meanwhile, the Asian republic has tried hard to boost cocoa production as its aging trees, most of them planted about 3 decades ago, are vulnerable to disease, but it will keep trying as the commodity is very vital.

Furthermore, Indonesia has a mixed economy in which both the private sector and government play significant roles, plus it is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and a member of the G-20 major economies.
