37 more airstrikes target IS in Syria, Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON Jan 7 (KUNA) -- The US-led coalition against the so-called Islamic State launched another 37 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) revealed in a statement Thursday.In Syria fighter attack and bomber aircraft carried out 14 airstrikes all near the town of Manbij where they destroyed 24 IS fighting positions four IS buildings suppressed an IS vehicle's movement and denied IS access to terrain the statement said.In Iraq rocket artillery fighter fighter-attack bomber and remotely piloted aircraft carried out 22 airstrikes in the following areas: Near Al Baghdadi where two strikes struck an IS staging facility and an IS weapons cache near Al Huwayjah where one strike destroyed an IS bunker near Albu Hayat where another strike destroyed 30 IS rockets an IS rocket rail and an IS building.Near Habbaniyah where two strikes destroyed two IS staging areas two IS buildings an IS vehicle and an IS tactical vehicle near Haditha where one strike struck a large IS tactical unit and destroyed three IS vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) an IS fighting position two IS vehicles and wounded an IS fighter.Near Hit where two strikes struck an IS VBIED factory near Mosul where four strikes struck an IS tactical unit and destroyed 11 IS fighting positions three IS bed down locations an IS tunnel and four IS assembly areas near Ramadi where six strikes struck two large IS tactical units and destroyed 13 IS fighting positions four IS heavy machine guns four IS VBIED staging facilities an IS staging area three IS buildings three IS tactical vehicles and denied IS access to terrain.And near Sinjar where three strikes struck three separate IS tactical units and destroyed three IS fighting positions.One additional airstrike not previously revealed took place near Ramadi on Tuesday where it destroyed an IS fighting position and an IS building and cratered an IS used road CJTF-OIR said.
