UAE- NCEMA ERC sign MoU for building capacities in crisis management

ABU DHABI 7th January 2016 (WAM)The National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for boosting joint co-operation in harnessing available resources to build capacities and co-ordinate their efforts in implementing a national response and emergency plans across different humanitarian missions.

Under the MoU inked at the NCEMA headquarters in Abu Dhabi by Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi and Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Hosani NECEMA Director-General the NCEMA will provide teams of trainers and instructors as well as training programmes to qualify the ERC's aid workers and volunteers on crisis and disaster management. The two sides will form a joint taskforce to envisage plans and mechanisms needed to back their strategies towards achievement of security stability and welfare in the State through effective management of emergencies.

Dr. Al Hosani said the NCEMA and the ERC maintain strong relations of co-operation and co-ordination and they have joint programmes for protection of lives and properties. The MoU will further solidify this partnership and contribute to upgrading joint co-ordinating measures for successful handling of and response to emergencies and disasters he added.

He added that the ERC has significant diverse experience and potentials in humanitarian and voluntary work which the NCEMA seeks to tap in case of emergencies.

Dr. Al Falahi said the NCEMA is a key partner of the ERC in delivering its vision towards humanitarian and developmental works within the UAE and beyond.

''The ERC attaches paramount importance to partnerships with other local stakeholders to ensure a better future for humanitarian work and provide a decent living to targeted groups whether in times of peace or in times of emergencies internally and externally.

The NCEMA works under the umbrella and supervision of the Supreme Council for National Security. It is the major national standard-setting body responsible for regulating and co-ordinating all efforts of emergency crisis and disaster management as well as the development of a national plan for responding to emergencies.

Therefore its work is focussed mainly in the development consolidation and maintenance of laws policies and procedures of emergency and crisis management at the national level.

The NCEMA was established with a mandate to ensure the safety of the lives of all citizens and residents on the territory of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and to preserve the property of the country. It also works to enhance the UAE's capabilities in managing emergency crisis and disaster by setting the requirements of business continuity enabling quick recovery through joint planning and co-ordinating communication both at the national and local level.
