UAE- Sharjah finishes head count of its residents in census

The counting phase of Sharjah Census 2015 has been completed the higher committee assigned with the task announced on Wednesday.

Carried out by the Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) in Sharjah the census has collected data from families and individuals residing in the emirate. The committee stated that data compiling will begin on January 9 to validate its accuracy.

The data gathered during the census stage will be crosschecked with personal data like ID number date of birth and other aspects under focus. The data will then be entered into a unified electronic system to be validated and the preliminary results will be announced towards the end of January.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani Chairman of the Higher Committee for Sharjah Census 2015 and Chairman of DSCD said data was collected through field visits or through self-counting (iCensus). After compiling it the data will be sent to His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah for final approval.

Shaikh Mohammed Al Thani said records of individuals who did not register due to unavailability will be compiled in the data verification stage.

Up to 97 per cent of the population was covered by the census and the counting process will ensure that the remaining three per cent is covered too. He said the date and time for this will be announced soon.

Field staff visited the houses of residents at least three times on different days. They left notes at homes of unavailable residents with a request to get in touch with them.

"I'd like to invite all Sharjah residents to cooperate with census teams when they receive a call to verify certain data and complete missing entries. Alternatively they can call the call centre (092-083-333) to complete the process" said Shaikh Mohammed Al Thani.

Abdullah Al Kadeed director of census operations said many residents visited the 25 supervisory centers in Sharjah for data collection. He said there had been some challenges but "none that couldn't be overcome". "The challenges were limited to individuals who did not want to cooperate with researchers but the issue was addressed by forming a special team to handle these exceptional cases."
