Ali Fakharawi had travelled to Iran in 2011 where he arranged for logistic and financial support for the network in Bahrain the statement added.

The development comes days after Manama expelled the Iranian envoy following the attacks on the Saudi embassy and consulate in Iran.

The attacks on the Saudi diplomatic posts in Tehran and Mashhad came after Saudi Arabia's execution of 47 convicted terrorists including a prominent Iranian-backed cleric.

Riyadh cut diplomatic ties with Tehran after the attacks and Bahrain swiftly followed suit severing diplomatic ties with Tehran and halting all flights to and from Iran.
