Oman on Wednesday condemned the attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran by protesters angered by the execution of a Shia cleric.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Sultanate of Oman) condemned the attack on the embassy in Tehran and another attack on a Saudi consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad.

"The attack on Saudi embassy in Tehran and the consulate in Mashhad is unacceptable and is against the Geneva and Vienna Conventions" the ministry of foreign affairs tweeted from its official twitter handle.

Angry crowds protesting at Saudi Arabia's execution of a top Shiite cleric set fire to the kingdom's embassy in Tehran on Saturday and stormed the building before being cleared out by police.
