Israeli Arabs removed from Athens Tel Aviv flight

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Two Arab-Israeli passengers on an Aegean Airlines flight from Greece to Israel were removed from the aircraft before takeoff after Israeli passengers objected to their presence on Tuesday.

According to Israeli daily the Jerusalem Post Israeli passengers demanded that the cabin crew call the police and search the two Palestinians.

The pair was eventually removed from the aircraft causing the flight to be delayed by 90 minutes.

According to the Jerusalem Post the two Arab-Israeli passengers agreed to catch a flight the following day.

"An initially small group of passengers very vocally and persistently asked for two other [Arab] Israeli passengers to be checked for security issues" read a statement issued by Greece’s national carrier cited by the newspaper.

"While it is indeed unfortunate that they were possibly racially profiling the customers indeed their fellow Israelis... the pilot did feel compelled to delay the flight and call the police to check again the two Israeli passengers’ documents and identities" the statement read.

"This did take some time" the statement added "but the documents were indeed checked and were okay."
