Minister praises GCC environment efforts


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Environment Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi said yesterday that celebrating the GCC's prize for the environment is one of the most important events in the Gulf in the field of environment.

Speaking at the award ceremony at The Torch Doha hotel, he said that raising awareness on preserving the environment can be done through partnerships between the public and the private sector, in addition to the efforts of individuals and NGOs.

The minister said that efforts made in the Gulf towards that end deserve respect, but called for all parties involved to prepare the necessary legislation to enhance the protection of environment in GCC nations.

For his part, HE the GCC Secretary-General, Dr Abdul Latif al-Zayani, expressed his thanks to HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the people of Qatar for their continuous support to joint GCC work. He said that yesterday's event was a reflection of the keenness of the GCC leaders to protect the environment.
