Al Faris an epic musical play based on the poems of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai will open today at the Rashid Hall in Dubai World Trade Centre. The play will run until January 9.

Lebanese actor Ghassan Saliba and Emirati singer Balqees play the lead roles in the play. The show will feature English subtitles.

Al Faris is directed by Marwan Rahbani. The preparations and rehearsals for Al Faris took just over a year which Rahbani believes is a "remarkably short period considering the size of the production".

Director-General of the Government of Dubai Media Office Mona Al Marri said: "Innovation has always characterised Dubai's initiatives which are inspired by the vision of the emirate's leadership and its constant pursuit of the highest excellence. We were keen to present a creative production that reflects the vision of Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid and the noble values he has always stood for."
