Curtain to rise on Al Faris tomorrow at Dubai World Trade Centre

DUBAI 5th January 2016 (WAM) --- Al Faris the epic musical play based on the poems of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will open tomorrow at Rashid Hall Dubai World Trade Center. The play will run until 9 January 2016.
Renowned Lebanese actor Ghassan Saliba and popular Emirati singer Balqees play the lead roles in the play that has been produced through a collaboration between Brand Dubai the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) and Rahbani Productions. The show will feature English subtitles.
Al Faris is directed by renowned Lebanese theatrical director Marwan Rahbani who previously directed the highly successful plays Al Mutanabbi in 2001 and Zenobia in 2007.
Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office Mona Al Marri said the production of Al Faris is a source of pride for Brand Dubai and a key project that aims to highlight Dubai's rich cultural and creative facets. Al Marri said "Innovation has always characterised Dubai's initiatives which are inspired by the vision of the emirate's leadership and its constant pursuit of the highest excellence. We were keen to present a creative production that reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the noble values he has always stood for."
Al Marri expressed her sincere appreciation for the cooperation and efficiency displayed by the production team. She highlighted the role of the Emirati team which made significant contributions to the success of the project.
The preparations and rehearsals for Al Faris took just over a year which Rahbani believes is a remarkably short period considering the size of the production. The cooperation resources and determination of the team enabled it to rapidly and efficiently complete the high-quality production the likes of which usually require a minimum of two to three years to finalise.
Al Faris is a one-act play inspired by the poems of an Arab leader who is highly respected worldwide as an icon of leadership development and prosperity.
An 800-strong cast and crew that includes actors writers technicians musicians and vocalists from 30 nationalities and a team of talented Emiratis participated in the massive production. The diversity of the production team reflects the cultural diversity of Dubai a city where people of over 200 nationalities live in harmony.
The production team traveled to Ukraine Malaysia UK and Lebanon to record the music and shoot the scenes for the cinematic backdrop for the play. Diverse talent from around the world contributed to the production of the play.
Doors for the show open at 6:00 pm every day while curtains rise at 6:30 pm.
