(MENAFNEditorial) Two winter camps have been organised by the Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) for Brownies, aged 7-12 and Guides, aged 12-15 in order to develop leadership and team building skills as well as instill confidence in them.
The camps included a range of challenging activities aimed at instilling responsibility and team work such as the twin sack race, a maze challenge and an obstacle course. Competitive activities were also played such as golf and paintball which aim to develop confidence and leadership qualities. In order to promote health and fitness a yoga session was organized and the girls also participated in a shoe designing workshop.
The second camp featured a sleepover, the first since the launch of SGG's new identity in 2013. The sleepover camp's program included adventurous outdoor pursuits such as zip lining, rock climbing and archery as well as an entertaining evening around a campfire that the girls helped to build.
Shaikha Abdulaziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Manager at Sharjah Girl Guides said, "The two camps were organised to develop important skills in the girls such as leadership, teamwork and trust. These activities help to build confidence in them, develop problem solving skills and encourage a range of abilities. They played a variety of games that the girls very much enjoyed which all aim to develop their personalities and keep them active. We hope that the girls will walk away with new experiences to share with their family and friends as well as strong friendships."
The guiding movement was first established in Sharjah in 1973 after which it spread to all seven Emirates, giving rise to the Girl Guides Association of the United Arab Emirates in 1979. Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs the SGG aims to inspire and nurture future generations to become progressive global citizens by providing a platform for girls to develop to their fullest potential.
