Saudi's Khalid triumphs ahead of Qatar's Bassem

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar's Bassem Hassan Mohamed lost out to the experience of Khaled al-Eid, as the Saudi Arabian veteran rider won the marquee and final event at the Al Rayyan International Show Jumping Championship.
At the Qatar Equestrian Federation outdoor arena, al-Eid riding 14-year-old Senorita put on a splendid show to win the Two Rounds, Art. 273.3.3.2 + 4.3 - 145 -160 cm, on the final night of the championship.
Al-Eid is a bronze medallist in individual jumping from the 2000 Olympics and he used that experience to eke out a comfortable victory in 43.45 seconds on a cold evening. The triumph was all the more memorable for him, as it came a day after he turned 47. The Saudi Arabian collected 186,000 Qatari riyals for his effort.
For Bassem, who stood first at last week's Qatar International Championship, it was a commendable effort to come second as it will keep him in a good stead in the Olympic year. Last night, Bassem was back in his 11-year-old The Toymaker, who had surged to victory in the last event, but the pair were unable to beat al-Eid's time and finished clear in 44.37 seconds. Bassem was richer by 148,000 riyals on the night.
Two-time Global Champions Tour winner Edwina Tops-Alexander of Australia came third with Lintea Tequila in 44.99 seconds for a pursue of 111,600 riyals.
Qatar had great start to the day, as its riders swept the podium in the One round against the clock , Art. 238.2.1 - 120cm. Saeed Nasser al-Qadi and his able ally Jessico 4 etched another win, while Mohamad al-Ghazali (Caresse M G) and Jaber Rashid al-Amri (What A Lady Van De Smis) came second and third respectively.
In the One Round + Winning Round, Art. 276.2.1, 2.3 - 145cm, Jordan's Ibrahim Hani Bisharat (Brown Sugar) took top spot. Ales Opatrny (VDL Fakir) of Czech Republic was second, while Bassem (Paddys Darco) came third.
