(MENAFN- Arab Times) Judicial sources disclosed that scores of expatriate judges are inclined to notify the Supreme Judicial Council of their intention against renewing their contracts to work in the Kuwaiti courts for another year, despite their contracts are renewable, reports Al-Rai daily.
The same sources declined to mention the exact number of judges involved, although they have expressed their desire clearly to leave Kuwait at the end of the judicial year in July or August due to some obligations related to their children's education and other issues.
Two or three judges are said to have stated they would not continue their jobs at the end of the judicial year and intending to end their contracts this January, indicating the judges have taken the step due to what they describe as unfair treatment between them and their Kuwaiti counterparts in other government agencies, sources noted.
The same sources said the salary of expatriate judge ranges from KD 1,600 to KD 2,000 compared to the salary of a Kuwaiti counterpart, which is KD 4,000 and more. The expatriate judge gets three months paid leave annually while a Kuwaiti gets six months.
Sources pointed out that the recent move by government toward austerity measures and reducing financial privileges and the expected increase in prices contributed to the decision, indicating better conditions and recent privileges awarded to judges in their home countries was the driving force behind the decision against renewing their contracts and prefer returning to their home countries.
