Morocco- Moroccan Parliament Member Resigns Because She is Illiterate

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) A member of the House of Councilors in the Moroccan Parliament resigned just three months after her election because of her illiteracy according to L'Economiste.

Malika Falahi elected under Morocco's Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) submitted her resignation during Tuesday's meeting of the chamber because she is illiterate.

The parliamentary stressed that she was in a place that 'put her in an uncomfortable situation and caused her psychological damage' Moroccan daily Assabah quoted Falahi as saying.

This was 'a decision taken after weeks of reflection and consultation with her relatives including her husband' the daily added.

According to HuffPost Maroc members of the Parliament noticed Falahi's incapacity to read and write during the election of the President of the Second Chamber last October.

Malika reportedly drew everyone's attention when she was unable to write the name of Hakim Benchamach the newly appointed President of the House of Councilors and asked for someone else to write it for her.

Her request stirred uproar in the chamber 'the chairman of the session refused her demand considering it against the law' Assabah revealed.

The House of Councilors accepted her resignation. However according to the same source Malika Falahi awaits approval from the Constitutional Council after a review of the legal implications of her dismissal.

Judges will probably order the Council to organize a new vote to elect a new member of the upper house of the parliament as required by law.
