India- PM Modi laid foundation stone of Delhi- Meerut expressway


(MENAFN- KNN India) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of the Delhi- Meerut expressway to decongest National Capital.

The project will cost Rs. 7566 crores and will include construction of 74 Km long Delhi-Dasna-Meerut 14 lane Expressway and upgradation of 22 Km long Dasna-Hapur section of NH-24 in three phases.

Prime Minsiter Modi described it as the "Road of Freedom from Pollution"

The alignment of Delhi-Meerut Express will start from Nizammudin Bridge from Delhi and will continue on existing NH - 24 upto Dasna. From Dasna there will be a completely new alignment upto Meerut. The alignment will terminate on inner ring road or Meerut bypass near Railway crossing at Meerut.

Speaking at the Function Union Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the expressway will do away with 31 traffic signals on the road and make it "signal free", reducing travel time between Meerut and Delhi from two and a half hours to around 40 minutes,

"This highway will show the path to tackle pollution," PM Modi said.

Delhi is the most polluted capital in the world.

Modi also said that in the changing times, pace will not slacken. It will only get faster," he said. Mr Modi said his government will take forward the programmes started by the Atal Vajpayee government. "Vajpayeeji had two projects - the Golden quadrilateral connecting four corners of the country and he started a programme to give connectivity to villages.

"Even the villagers now are not satisfied with single lane roads. They want double lane and four lane roads. Every villager understands that if his villager has to be connected to the path of development, his village must be connected to the highway, said PM Modi.

In the current time Delhi and Meerut are connected through NH-58 witnessing of massive traffic Jam leads to inconvenient to people of Muradnagar and Modinagar.
