Oman- PACP asserts strong surveillance on markets

The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) affirmed that it will continue to intensify its efforts to control prices so that there will be no increase affecting the various sectors that fall within the terms of reference of PACP.

Dr. Said bin Khamis al-Ka'abi Chairman of PACP said that the Royal Decree No. (53/2011) that determined the PACP tasks and duties which include price control.

He added that PACP operates under the laws and regulations that do not permit the raising of prices without prior approval of PACP which is in force since 2011. Therefore prices have been stable since that date and any increase occurred or occur without prior approval if proven will be penalized and legal action will be taken against such cases.

Dr. al-Ka'abi stressed that all suppliers and importers should not exploit the decision approved by the Council of Ministers on dealing with requirements of the current stage and the status of global oil prices to raise the prices of commodities and services without prior approval. He called for commitment to transparency and credibility standards in dealing with consumers and not to manipulate prices and pay attention to the quality of goods and avoid fraud.

The Chairman of PACP confirmed that PACP will make every efforts to tighten control over the markets and shops to monitor any violations and take the necessary legal action against violators through field work teams in various wilayats urging everyone to cooperate for the public interest.
