Bahrain court sentences 29 to jail terms for bomb attack on policemen

Manama: The High Criminal Court in Bahrain had sentenced 29 defendants to jail terms ranging from five years to life imprisonment.

The convictions relate to attempted murder of policemen using and possessing explosives and weapons rioting and receiving and providing explosives training in order to commit terrorist crimes.

Terror Crime Prosecution Chief Advocate General Ahmed Al-Hammadi said Tuesday that the High Criminal Court revoked the citizenship of two individuals and ordered 27 defendants to pay damages of BD2782130 according to Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

The convictions relate to an incident on 19 December 2014 when the individuals in question detonated an explosive device with the intent of murdering policemen. The explosion caused injuries to security personnel and damage to patrol vehicles.

Investigations uncovered the locations where the defendants concealed the explosives and bomb-making materials. Police seized five ready-made explosives remote detonators firearms and ammunition. The Public Prosecution brought the charges against the defendants based on statements recorded from the accused witness testimonies and forensic evidence. The court heard the case in the presence of the defendants and their legal teams. The defendants will continue to be afforded full legal rights and access to their legal counsel in accordance with the law.
