Qatar- Arab Workshop on Foreign Terrorist in Arab Region Begins


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Cairo December 29 (QNA) - The first workshop on the phenomena of foreign terrorists in the Arab region (risks and challenges) organized by the Arab League's Legal Affairs Department began today at the Arab League General Secretariat's Headquarters.
Taking part in the workshop are representatives of the ministries of justice and interior in Arab states in addition to many Arab and international organizations including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) the Arab Interior Ministers Council's General Secretariat and a number of research centres.
The State of Qatar is represented at the workshop by HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Fahad Al-Thani a legal researcher at the Foreign Ministry.
Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Nabil Elaraby warned against the emergence of the phenomenon of foreign terrorists pouring into the Arab region stressing that the Arab League is following with deep concern this phenomenon and is keen to fight it through the available means in accordance with a decision issued by the Arab League Council in September 2014 which calls for legal and judicial measures on the Arab level.
In a speech read on his behalf by Director of the Arab League's Legal Department Dr. Alaa Al Tamimi Dr. Elaraby revealed that the number of foreign terrorist fighters over the past three years increased from some thousands to over 30 thousands who came from more than 100 countries in groups connected to ISIS.(QNA)
