Cuba projects GDP to hit 6 percent in 2016

(MENAFN) Cuba's economic growth in 2016 is forecasted to rise 2 percent from this year's 4 percent development, which is considered a noteworthy progress amid the current global crisis.

The nation will assign its resources toward import substitution and export in 2016, mentioning a huge investment plan of over USD7 million, which will focus on tourism and food production.

Furthermore, after the Cuban revolution and before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Cuba mainly depended on Moscow for substantial aid and sheltered markets for its exports.

"We must produce everything possible in Cuba, and it is better to import raw materials than buy the finished products from the international market," said the Vice President and Economy Minister.
