Morocco To Organize Freshwater Ecological Fishing Festival
(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The city of Agadir will hold the Freshwater Ecological Fishing Festival the first of its kind in Morocco fromJanuary 8 to 10. The festival aims to bringtogethera minimum of1500fishermen in order to understand and implement the best fishing practices that respect the environment. The organizers will presentthe results of the national festival atthe conferenceon Climate Change(COP22)scheduled forNovember2016 in Marrakech Morocco. Under the theme “The fisherman a development actor to be mobilized for the sustainability of fish resources in the context of human pressure and the effects of climate change” the festival will be marked by the signing of the “Ecological pact of the fisherman.” Theecological pactisan environmental charterdeveloped by theNicolas HulotFoundation forNature and Man(FNH) and theEnvironment Watch Committee (VEC) in France.It setstenobjectivesand fivepractical proposalsthat can be appliedto sustainably carefor the environment. According to the Moroccan Federation of Recreational Fishing the organizers of the event the pact is a form of moral charter which fishermen undertake to respect nature and to know the best practices for sustainable fisheries. The festival includes a documentary film about fishing workshops about fly tying as well as conferences highlighting the ecological importance of fishing and its relation with tourism and the environment. The fishing federation will also present results of the 'eco-tourism development cooperation project' of fish biodiversity in contributing to the preservation of water resources highlighting Ifrane National Park as a successful example.
