UAE participates in 1st Arab workshop on foreign terrorists

CAIRO 29th December 2015 (WAM) - A delegation from the UAE took part today in a workshop organised by the Arab League in its headquarters in Cairo to tackle the phenomenon of foreign terrorists in the Arab region.

The UAE delegation was headed by Mohammed Atiq Al Romaithi Deputy Director-General of the General Authority of Ports Border and Free Zones Security. Other delegation members included Ali Al Shemaili In-charge of the UAE representation office at the Arab League and Hani bin Huwaidin also from the representation office.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Dr. Alaa Al Tamimi Director of Legal Affairs at the Arab League the League's Secretary-General Dr. Nabil Al Arabi warned of the influx of foreign terrorists in the Arab region. He revealed that the number of foreign fighters in the Arab countries rose during the past three years to 30000.

He added that foreign terrorists are currently concentrated in Syria Iraq and Afghanistan and a few of them are based in Libya Yemen and Somalia.

Al Arabi said lack of strict border control and counter-terrorism legislations contribute to the increase in the number of foreign terrorists in conflict areas.
