Meeting to discuss challenges in power and desalination

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Key issues concerning power generation and the need to adopt new technologies for water desalination will be discussed at a conference that will be held at St Regis Doha on February 22 and 23, 2016.
Informing this yesterday, Qatar Society of Engineers (QSE) chairman Ahmed Jassim al-Jolo said the conference would see the participation of several experts, academics and professionals working in the water and power sectors from across the Arab region.
"The Electrical Power and Water Desalination in the Arab World Conference", held under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, is being hosted by QSE in association with the Ministry of Energy & Industry and Arab Engineers' Union.
The experts will share their experiences, discuss technologies suited to meet the region's urgent and long-term needs and put the focus on lessons learned over the years in the water and power sectors, said al-Jolo, noting that the future course of action and plans of the Arab Union members would also feature prominently in the deliberations.
"The experiences and achievements of the region's countries and production and distribution plans for electricity and freshwater are top on the agenda of the conference," he said.
Al-Jolo noted the challenges faced by the region's countries in desalinating water. The need to reduce desalination costs is uppermost in the minds of professionals working in the water sector, he said, explaining how expensive the process has been all along.
Qatar Petroleum (golden sponsor), Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Qatar Electricity and Water Company and the Professional Standards Organisation are supporting the event.
Senior Qatari engineering professionals Ibrahim Hassan al-Sulaiti, Abdullah Mohamed al-Baker, Ibrahim al-Kuwari and Ali al-Dosari were among the others who attended the meeting where the event's schedule was released.
