162 wounded Syrians flown from Lebanon to Turkey


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT Dec 28 (KUNA) -- A total of 162 Syrian combatants and civilians who were wounded in the battles in the besieged town of Al-Zabadani southwest Syria have been flown to Turkey on Monday night.A joint UN-Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) convoy of buses and ambulances carrying the 162 wounded Syrians had earlier in the day crossed into Lebanon under a UN-brokered prisoner exchange deal between the Syrian regime and armed groups the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported.They were left stranded in Zabadani for the last few months after the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters and pro-regime militias besieged the town while the armed opposition groups had besieged Kafiria and Al-Fouaa.They have left the Beirut-Rafiq Hariri International Airport aboard a Turkish airliner in synchronization with the arrival at the airport of two Turkish aircraft carrying 338 residents of the opposition-held towns of Al-Fouaa and Kafiria Idlib governorate north Syria.The 338 Syrians will be carried by the UN-LRC convoy to Al-Masna' border crossing east Lebanon where they will be delivered to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
