GCC Inmates Week activities stress on importance of humane treatment

The fourth GCC Inmates Week concluded its activities recently.

Held under the patronage of Lt Gen H H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior the week was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid al Nuaimi chairman Ajman Department of Tourism and Development stated a press release.

The slogan for the week this year was 'Together to Achieve Reform'. A number of activities and awareness programmes were held as part of the event across all participating Emirates. The activities held included a seminar with the participation of experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Innovation Lab workshop.

It was attended by the Deputy Director General of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department in the Ministry of Interior. Delegations from various correctional and punitive establishments of GCC countries took part in the activities.

Brig Hamad Khamis al Dhaheri deputy head of the punitive and correctional establishments department in the Ministry of Interior praised the efforts of all those who worked to ensure the success of the programme.

He said that the week's programme included a diverse set of activities at different locations in malls and public places across UAE. The activities aimed to show the humane treatment towards inmates of Punitive and Correctional Establishments in UAE as well as the different activities and programmes organised for their benefit.

The programme also showcased products made by inmates. During the closing ceremony which was held in Dubai Brig Dhaheri awarded shields and certificates of appreciation to GCC officers who took part in the programme the release added.
