Acid train derails in Australia

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Sydney Rabi'I 17 1437 December 28 2015 SPA -- A freight train hauling 26 wagons of sulphuric acid
derailed in a remote area of flooded central Queensland causing
police to declare a total exclusion zone in the area police said
Monday according to dpa.

More than 200000 litres of the toxic acid is in the toppled wagons
scattered across the soft mud and floodwaters around the disaster
site.

It is not clear how much of the acid has leaked from the carriages
and police are waiting until it is safe to move in a team of experts
to investigate the crash site.

In the meantime a 2-kilometre exclusion zone has been imposed around
the crash site near the tiny hamlet of Julia Creek. The acid was from
Townsville bound for a mine at Mount Isa in central Queensland.

Three workers on the train are recovering in hospital after receiving
minor injuries during the accident on Sunday.

Police believe the derailment could have been caused by floodwaters
sweeping away supports for the tracks.
