Oman- Around RO759000 given as zakat during 2015 says MARAreport

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MARA) distributed approximately RO759000 as zakat during 2015 its annual report for the year says.

This amount is up from about RO450000 in 2014.

The increase in the amount has been due to rise in the number of applicants a press release said. The total number of beneficiaries was 10125. Of these 200 were in need of medical aid (approx RO110000) 472 were under the sustenance aid category (approx RO124520) 62 were under the housing aid category (RO30360) 41 were applicants for educational aid (approx RO23060).

There were 9350 applicants under the general aid category and the zakat given under this head stood at around (RO471000). The zakat money panel meets every month to look at applications
