Eight people dead overnight in US as tornadoes hit Dallas areas


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Washington Dec 27 (KUNA) -- Eight people were reported dead as tornadoes hit areas close to Dallas Texas overnight raising the number of victims caused by rampaging storms in the US to 26 this week.Local police authorities told reporters that five people were killed overnight Saturday as their vehicles were "blown off a motorway" in Garland northeast of Dallas while three others were found dead in nearby towns.As many as 11 tornadoes touched down near Dallas the National Weather Service (NWS) said on its website adding that the continuing bad weather and darkness prevent a full damage report as of early Sunday.Tornadoes and heavy-rainfall accompanied by flash floods ravaged parts of the state of Mississippi Tennessee and Arkansas killing 18 and injuring many others were reported Saturday bringing the total number of victims to 26 so far. As much as 50 thousand are reported without power as the NWS still has it warning of a historic blizzard as the same storm system is expected to dump over 40cm of snow on parts of west Texas and Oklahoma.
