Nearly 12000 Candidates for Parliamentary Elections in Iran


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Tehran December 26 (QNA) - Nearly 12000 candidates including more than 1100 women are registered as candidates for 290 parliamentary seats in Iran the Interior Ministry said Saturday.
The candidate slate is a record.
The last parliamentary vote in 2012 saw nearly 5000 people seek mandates. The number of women seeking office is more that triple the number from four years ago.
The Interior Ministry extended the registration deadline to midnight Friday to accommodate the surge in candidate registrations.
The election is February 26. (QNA)
