Oman- Muscat Salalah airports register growth in passenger traffic

The number of passengers who passed through Muscat International Airport till the end of November 2015 recorded an increase of 17 per cent to 9321617 passengers while it rose by 21 per cent in Salalah Airport compared to the figures in the same period in 2014.

Data indicated an 18 per cent increase in the number of arrivals to 4708379 until November 2015 compared to 3991125 passengers for the same period in 2014.

The number of departing passengers also increased by 16 per cent to 4583962 from 3941684 passengers a year ago.

The increase in the arrival and departure traffic at the Muscat International Airport is attributed to the growing number of flights operated by the existing airlines such as Kuwait Airways Ethiopian Airlines and SpiceJet.

In terms of airfreight traffic at the Muscat International airport aviation data indicates an increase in the total unloaded and loaded freight by 10 per cent with total shipments pegged at 122105 tons in November 2015 compared to 111259 tons during the same period of 2014.

The Salalah Airport recorded an increase of 21 per cent in the total number of arriving and departing passengers to 943701 passengers until November 2015 compared to 778358 passengers for the same period of 2014.

As for the movement of air cargo at the Salalah Airport freight traffic also rose by 28% with the loaded and unloaded freight estimated to be 1429 tons until November 2015 compared to 1115 tons during the same period in 2014.
