Iraqi army advances into Ramadi center

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD Dec 23 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi army continued on Wednesday its advance into the center of Ramadi city while the warplanes of the international coalition carried out intensified airstrikes in some towns in Nineveh Governorate killing 44 militants.The joint special operations command said in a statement that some squads combating terrorism embarked on advancing into Humeira area towards the center of Ramadi city adding that other squads killed about ten militants.In northern Nineveh the statement noted that coalition warplanes targeted some gatherings of militants of the so-called the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) coming from Syria killing 44 in separate areas.The Iraqi forces have launched yesterday large-scale military operations to retake Ramadi from the hands of ISIL amid expectations that the forces could gain the battle within some days after ISIL sustained heavy losses over the past days and its supply lines were cut off.
