Oxy Oman top private sector employer: Survey

The Ministry of Higher Education's (MoHE) Graduates Survey 2015 names Oxy Oman as the top employer in the private sector (39 jobs) followed by PDO. Omantel and Worley Parsons Engineering share the third spot. The survey included responses of 12551 graduates from 2009-10 and 2012-13.

The survey found that 33.2 per cent of graduates were employed in the private sector compared to 66.4 per cent in the public sector. It was found that the percentage of graduates who are employed by the private sector has steadily risen from 28.9 per cent in 2009-10 to 36.8 per cent in 2012-13.

The survey found that 40.5 per cent of the graduates from private educational institutions got jobs in the private sector compared to 31.6 per cent from public higher education institutions. The study pointed out that men outnumber women in the private sector.

The percentage of male graduates working in the private sector stood at 39.5 per cent compared to 25.8 per cent females. It found that 54.5 per cent of the men holding bachelor's degree receive salaries between RO601 to RO1200 while another 25.7 per cent get between RO1201 and RO1800.

Among women 54.4 per cent of the bachelor's degree holders get paid between RO601 and RO1200 in the private sector while another 35.5 per cent receive salaries RO600 or less per month.
