Greater Washington Urban League Distributes Toys

(MENAFNEditorial) --Wednesday December 16 2015 the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) In partnership with Major Leauge Baseball Team the Washington Nationals; began the process of sorting and distributing toys collected from the Wonderful ''Nats'' fans in attendance of this year''s ''Nationals Winterfest''. GWUL representatives and volunteers worked hand and hand with Nationals staff and volunteers the weekend of December 12-13 accepting toy donations over the course of the two-day Winterfest where fans were treated to games and lucky raffle winners met and took photos with a few favorite players (#28 Outfielder Jayson Werth #6 Infielder Anthony Rendon #3 Outfielder Michael Taylor and #31 Pitcher Max Scherzer). The final count of new toys collected was 1752 ranging in age appropriateness from toddler to teenager. After learning of fellow DC Metro Area organization''s robbery earlier in the week both the Nationals and GWUL decided to give all cash donations to the Southeast DC Salvation Army to assist in replacing the stolen items. George Lambert President of the Greater Washington Urban League and Gregory McCarthy VP of Communtiy Engagement for the Washington Nationals were present to assist GWUL''s Director of Community Programs Audrey Epperson as she and her team went about the yearly opportunity to serve DC Metro area families. She and her volunteers painstakingly took inventory and individually selected toys to be packaged for the families making their way to GWUL''s Headquarters at 2901 14th St. N.W. Washington DC to pick up toys for their children. Other local community organizations such as ''Strong Start'' were also given an opportunity to provide toys to the families they serve from the generous donated unwrapped new toys collected from Nat''s fans.
