Kuwait- Australia foils terrorist plot


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUALA LUMPUR Dec 23 (KUNA) -- Australian police in New South Wales aborted early on Wednesday a scheme to attack a naval base and police headquarters nabbing two persons in raids on their hideouts in Sydney.Police commissioner in New South Wales Catherine Burn in a statement excerpts of which were broadcast by the media and monitored here identified the two detainees as Abdullah Salhi 24 and Mohammad Al-Amawi 20.Burn said the two men planned to attack the key Woolloomooloo navy base but did not intend to target citizens or expatriates indicating that the same base had been targeted in the past.Australian authorities arrested in December 2014 14 persons suspected of complicity in a plot to carry out terrorist attacks in Syndey. They upped the warning level against terrorism in September after determining that more than 100 citizens joined the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). (end) mam.rk
